Blue and Silver SMOK Nord GT with light grey background

Summary:

  • The Nord GT is a pod system designed primarily for DTL and RDL vaping.
  • Key features include a 2500mAh battery, stepless airflow control, 5mL pod capacity, and USB-C fast charging.
  • The Nord GT has a premium look and feel, thanks to a textured grip and pleasant weightiness in the hand.
  • This device focuses on cloud production and produces tons of vapor. Keep the wattage lower (around 25-30W) when RDL vaping to prevent it from heating up.
  • While it doesn’t have the biggest taste on the market, the Nord GT excels at producing big clouds and is a lot of fun to use. Buy your Nord GT or replacement pod from U Vape today.

2024 is shaping up to be the Year of the Powerful Pod System. Gone are the days when you needed a big box mod for cloud chasing—now it seems like all kinds of major brands are releasing pocket-sized devices with plenty of power for your RDL and DTL vaping adventures.

SMOK is getting in on the action, too—with the first device in the popular Nord series not to feature a number in the title. But what does the “GT” in “Nord GT” stand for: Great Taste? Go Tankless? Keep reading our review and find out.

Key Features of the Nord GT

  • 2500mAh Battery
  • 80W maximum output
  • Stepless Airflow Control
  • Intuitive Firing Button
  • 5mL Pod Capacity
  • A 0.69" OLED Colour Screen
  • Type-C USB Charging
  • Side Fill System
  • Press Fit Coil Installation
  • Magnetic Pod Connection
  • Short-Circuit Protection
  • 8 Second Cut-off Protection
  • Low Voltage Protection
  • Intelligent Pod Detection

Some of these are features you’d expect to see in any modern pod system, but a few really stand out to us. Specifically, this is a lot of power for a pod system, even one aimed at the DTL crowd. It’s nice to see that SMOK has given us a sizable battery to go with that as well—if you’re going to vape at high wattage, you don’t want to have to stop and recharge the device every few hours.

Look & Feel

This is a good-looking little vape. You’ll notice that the grip of the device (underneath the firing button and airflow controls) has a different texture than the rest of it—which is especially nice in versions like GT Silver Black, since it catches the light at certain angles and gives the whole package a premium appearance.

It’s got a nice heft to it as well—unlike some pod systems that shoot for being lightweight, the Nord GT has a real presence in your hand. It’s not heavy enough to fatigue you during use, but it does feel like a device that doesn’t want to be ignored. We kind of like it.

Device Setup

Setup is easy and in line with what you’d expect if you’re used to other Nord devices. There’s a preinstalled meshed 0.15Ω coil, but you can replace it with a meshed 0.23Ω coil instead if you’d rather vape at a higher wattage (we’ll get into how each one performs in the next section).

As for filling the pod, that’s also pretty simple—just remove the pod, take out the rubber plug on the side, and fill it up with up to 5mL of your preferred e-liquid. Then put the plug back in place, and pop the pod back in. It’s magnetic, so you’ll feel it come into place.

Charging took us just under an hour (approximately 55 minutes) with the supplied USB-C charger, which is pretty impressive considering how big the battery in this thing is. No surprises, and no complaints.

At a Glance:

  • Textured grips and a pleasant weightiness make this feel like a premium device.
  • Setup is pretty standard for a pod system, but easy and intuitive—no surprises.
  • The big battery in the Nord GT charges surprisingly fast. Nice work, SMOK!

Using the Nord GT

Flavour Profile & Strength

Once you fire up the Nord GT, the fun really starts. You’re going to be surprised at how much vapor comes out of this thing—no, really.

The preinstalled 0.15Ω coil works best when you crank the power right up. Start and 60W if you want it a bit more mild, or go all the way up to maximum power for a more robust experience. You’ll want to use freebase e-liquids and a DTL vaping style if you’re doing this.

Swap out the coil, fill your pod with salt nic e-juice, and try 0.23Ω if RDL is what you’re after. When you’re doing this, it’s best to keep the power down. We recommend starting at about 25W and going up to 60W from there until you find your sweet spot.

Draw Quality

For RDL: Lower wattages are definitely your friend here. You get a nice gentle hit without sacrificing vapor production, especially if you dial open your airflow. Towards the higher end of the power spectrum, you might start to experience a little heat. Still, not bad!

For DTL: You get a lot more flavour from the device when using it this way—and you can still enjoy big clouds! For us, this is the preferred way to use the Nord GT (but we appreciate that it lets you experiment with different styles).

Longevity

We’ve already mentioned how big the battery in the Nord GT is, and we’re happy to report that it holds out as expected. A day of vaping is no problem for this device when fully charged, even when you’re hitting the higher end of the power band.

At a Glance:

  • Use salt nic e-juice for the 0.23Ω coil and freebase for the 0.15Ω coil.
  • The taste of this vape is pretty good, but the cloud production absolutely rocks.
  • That big ol’ battery does exactly what you’d expect—get ready to vape away all day.
  • Should You Buy the Nord GT?

If cloud production is your top priority, we defy you to find a pod system that’ll do more for you than this one. Your size is probably going to be limited more by your lung capacity than by the device itself.
